Why Do You Need a Bankroll to Play Poker?

Why Do You Need a Bankroll to Play Poker?
Financial management is a key part of life in general. Applied to poker, this is known as "Bankroll Management". Poker players are not known for their application of sound money management theory, they are often dismissed by non poker players as simply gamblers, but many poker players are hiding a hidden skill, which is the ability to pick out games that are both profitable and exposing only a controlled percentage of their overall cash dedicated to their poker playing each time they play poker. Any profitable poker player will tell you that in order to survive the swings and variance associated with longer term winning poker playing; being able to manage your money to stay in the game is of paramount importance, almost as important as being able to beat the game itself.
So what is a bankroll? A bankroll is any amount of money that you set aside that is not used for any other reason other than to play poker. This helps you solve some of the normal assumptions associated with poker player or gamblers in general.
The first assumption of the none player (usually well meaning family or friends) is that you are going to bet with everything you have with no thought to consequence if you lose. This problem is solved when using a bankroll. Why? You are betting with money that is not required for rent, mortgage, food or utility bills meaning that even should the worst happen your important obligations are covered. This helps you relax into playing properly and reducing the effect of the urge to tilt and chases losses. Would you feel the pressure if winning the next pot was the difference between eating that night or not? I would.
The second assumption is that you are instantly going to get addicted to gambling once playing poker, immediately entering self destruct and losing control. This also is solved by utilising a bankroll and managing it correctly. You are by definition in control of the money in your bankroll and making sensible, disciplined decisions which helps you play better poker and be in the correct mindset to win. Staying in control, having restraint, a clear mind and discipline is a fundamental part of winning poker. You should use your bankroll management as your safety cushion. If you feel that you want to chase losses irrationally and stake too much of your bankroll then this is the time to step away from the game and evaluate if you need to take a break. Constantly step back and evaluate if you are making the right decisions with your bankroll. Everyone loses, but the real winners do things right and make correct money decisions no matter what their feelings are towards a loss or bad beat.
When moving up the limits of cash game play most professionals assess how many buy-ins they have for the next level of limits. For instance, at $1 - $2 No-Limit Holdem players normally have between 25 and 40 buy-ins, so as the normal buy-in for this level is $200, players should have a minimum of $5000 before sitting in these games. Personally, I prefer to have a minimum of 30+ buy-ins. Players will also move down in limits if they have a bad run and drop to a certain amount of buy-ins. For example, if your $5000 bankroll sank to 15 buy-ins or $3000 then you should move down in limits as your bankroll can no longer support the level you are playing at safely. This allows you to stay in the game and look to work on your game to improve and get back to the higher limit once again. You have a massive edge using proper money management, as these skills are transferable into other areas of life where money management is important. Before you play a single pot, decide on your bankroll amount, what levels you will move up, down and when you will cash out some profits. Then stick to it.

Texas Hold'em Poker - Learn How to Play!

All Texas hold'em poker games use a standard 52 card deck and the cards are ranked as follows: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace. (Aces count as both high and low). There is no strength in the suits of the cards, they are all equal. Exact same hands in different suits such as a straight flush will result in a split pot.
1) Each hand starts with a round of forced betting. They are known as the blinds as the two players to the left of the dealer have to pay them before seeing their cards. Forced bets are determined by the betting structure. The two players to the left of the dealer post the small and big blind.
2) The dealer will deal two holes cards to each player face down. As in most games, the deal is done clockwise and every player gets dealt one card, before the second card is dealt round.
3) Now the players to the left of the blinds have the option to fold, call or raise (pre flop betting). Generally two poor hole cards will be folded, but if you have a good starting hand and you want to call, then you must put in the same amount as the big blind. Or if you choose to raise then you must put in double the big blind as a minimum. If the big blind hasn't been raised then the player in the big blind has the option to check.
4) Once the pre-flop betting ends, the flop is dealt. The dealer burns the top card from the deck to prevent cheating and deals the flop. All players still in the hand can use these communal cards to make the best hand in conjunction with their own
5) There is another round of betting, starting with the player to the left of the dealer still holding cards. As before each round of betting consists of checking, betting, calling, raising or folding.
6) The dealer then burns another card and puts one more card face up (the turn). Also known as fourth street.
7) There is another round of betting, starting with the player to the left of the dealer still holding cards. As before each round of betting consists of checking, betting, calling, raising or folding. The size of the bet may increase due to the size of the pot.
8) The dealer then burns one last card and puts one final card face up (the river) Also known as fifth street. Players can now use all five community Cards and/or their two pocket cards to make the best possible 5 card hand.
9) Any players still left in the pot, make one last round of betting, again starting with the player to the left of the dealer still holding cards. As before each round of betting consists of checking, betting, calling, raising or folding.
10) The showdown! All players that haven't folded, now show their hands starting with the person to the left of the last player to call. The player with the best hand wins. However on occasions when two or more players have the same hand, it's a split pot.
The basic rules of Texas holdem are easy to learn, mastering the game takes practice.

How to Get Better at Golf - 3 Tips to Turn Your Game Around in Less Than an Hour!

Many people constantly want to learn how to get better at golf. It does not matter if you are just starting to take up this great game, or if you have been playing it for all of your life, everyone wants to hit better golf shots and shoot lower scores. Here in this article I am going to outline 3 tips that I have used to drastically improve my game instantly. This simple techniques will allow you to take up to 7 or more shots per round off of your scores.
1. The first thing that you need to do is make sure that your short game is in place. The most common problem that I see with most golfers is that they try to hit every shot around the green with a sand wedge or lob wedge. This is one of the quickest ways to get yourself into trouble, because these clubs are not the easiest alternative. If you do not have to carry the ball over a bunker or anything of that nature you are much better off putting the ball in the back of your stance and chipping with a 7 or 8 iron. This will get the ball closer to the hole more consistently.
2. The next thing that you must do is make sure that you have your mind right to play golf. I know it seems like everyone says that golf is all mental, but in truth probably 70% of it is. Mastering the mental aspect of the game and learning to accept every shot and move on is going to allow you to play much better golf.
3. The third thing that you must do is make sure that you are driving the ball well and that your swing is in check. People who want to learn how to play better golf often focus on the wrong things, which is why their golf swings never improve. If you really want to get better then you need to keep it simple, and learn how to swing the club beautifully so you can learn how to play better golf and shoot lower scores.
